Win $250 for that favorite peanut recipe at the Plains Peanut Festival in Plains, GA, on September 23, 2000. Deadline for entries is August 31, 2000.Be a part of the first annual Plains Peanut Festival Recipe Contest! Peanuts and peanut butter are some of America's favorite foods. They are the pride of Georgia, Plains and Plains most famous residents, President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter. Research generated by the Peanut Institute is showing that including peanuts and peanut butter in the daily diet can help reduce the risk of heart disease and provide many nutrients needed in a healthy diet. The Plains Peanut Festival celebrates the delicious and nutritious peanut each harvest season in the hometown of the countries most famous peanut farmer and former president. If you have a favorite recipe using peanuts or peanut butter, send it in so people can have another way to eat heart healthy peanuts. If your recipe is selected as one of the top twenty, it will be prepared by a professional chef for the final judging. Then, three winning recipes will be selected in each of these four categories: snacks and appetizers, salads and main dishes, breads and muffins, and sweets and desserts, plus a grand-prize winner! Recipes will be judged in each of the four categories by flavor and eating quality; texture or consistency and by appearance. Include the following with each entry: recipe name and category; ingredient list (must include peanuts or peanut butter) and amount; cooking directions (methods, times and temperatures); serving directions (presentation, total yield and serving size). Each category will have three prizes: First $100, Second $75, Third $50. Grand prize for the overall competition will be $250.
