The Peanut Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to
expanding state-of-the-art knowledge regarding peanuts and peanut
products. A special emphasis is placed on establishing sound science as
the basis for food, nutrition, and health discussions about peanuts.
The Peanut Institute pursues its mission through research programs,
educational initiatives, and the promotion of healthful lifestyles to
consumers of all ages. As an independent forum, The Peanut Institute is
uniquely positioned to work with all segments of the food industry, the
research community, academia, consumer organizations, and
government.
The Peanut Institute recognizes that one of the best ways to meet
both public health priorities and consumer needs is by working in
partnership with professional organizations.
Research
The Peanut Institute supports scientific research designed to improve
knowledge of:
- the nutritional composition of peanuts
- the effects of eating peanuts on health and disease
- the role peanuts play in a healthful diet
- how peanut consumption best fits into eating patterns at different stages of the human lifestyle
The Peanut Institute engages highly-respected scientists and researchers in the United States and around the world to advise on and conduct these research projects.
Education The Peanut Institute builds upon science to develop educational campaigns that both inform and provide practical advice. The initiatives are focused at three levels:
- Professional education -- works with professional societies to provide background materials and information to opinion leaders, researchers, doctors, and dietitians
- Consumer education -- works closely with a wide variety of organizations to reach out to the public in innovative ways
- Industry education -- works with all segments of the peanut industry and allied groups to advance the understanding of the consumption patterns of peanuts
Consumer Lifestyles
Consumers have different nutritional needs and health concerns at every
stage of their lifestyle. The Peanut Institute develops creative
approaches to helping toddlers and children, adolescents and teens,
pregnant women, and busy parents, athletes and "weekend warriors," the
aging and the elderly develop healthful eating patterns suited to their
stage of life.
